October has always been associated with black and orange, monsters
and ghouls, and lots of other scary creatures that hide in the night. We used
to worry mostly about what costume we would wear, or what pattern we should
carve into our pumpkins—all activities we certainly still take part in and
associate with the month, but if you see an abundance of pink throughout the
month, do you associate it with something in particular?
Probably.
October has become linked with breast cancer awareness, and
it’s no wonder that so many people have decided it an important cause to take
part in, because ONE IN EIGHT women will develop invasive breast cancer at
some point in her lifetime. No wonder pink has become associated with October! Breast cancer is one of the scariest monsters that could be hiding around the corner.
- For women in the U.S., breast cancer rates are higher than those for any other cancer, besides lung cancer.
- In 2014, there are more than 2.8 million women with a history of breast cancer in the U.S.
- Breast cancer risk doubles if a woman has a first-degree relative with breast cancer, but 85% of all new cases are from women with no genetic link
- Men can also develop breast cancer (2,360 new cases this year)
- People of both genders and all races are at risk (though some seemingly more than others)—breast cancer doesn’t discriminate!
That’s why we’ve decided to team up with other great brands to raise awareness, educate on prevention, encourage breast exams, and donate to research!
Here's how:
- 15% of all of our sales this month are going to the Avon Foundation For Women..... Shop & Save Lives Right Now!
- JLeer team members have raised funds and are walking on a team in the 2 day, 39 mile AvonWalk for Breast Cancer in Charlotte, NC
- We have created a Give Back to Breast Cancer Giveaway, where we’ve paired up with other brands, like Reebok, The North Face, Pink Ribbon Cooking, and the American Cancer Society, who are donating to the cause and whose products we’ve collaborated to create a Give Back Gift Basket filled with items that not only financially benefit breast cancer research, but that also sport the pink ribbon so that you can raise awareness, and also encourage healthy lifestyles through exercise and healthy eating—both major components in preventing cancer.

-A

5 additional winners will receive a one-year premium subscription (a $72 value!) and a recipe pack. Even if you aren’t directly affected by breast cancer, these would make amazing gifts to anyone in your life that is affected.

cancer, and in educating women on the best ways to prevent being diagnosed to
